"How Do You Actually Get Exposure?" explores the reality of breaking into the creative industries, a path with no clear formula. It's told through the experiences of two emerging artists, DRIZZZ and Erika Ever, at BIGSOUND 2026, alongside insight from G.Y.R.O.'s Alexandria Thomson. As a young musician myself, working to build a career in this industry, I set out to understand what actually helps young creatives get seen, and found there's no shortcut, just showing up, doing the work, and staying open to what comes.
Hi, my name is Alexander Crawford. I'm originally from Hobart and now based in Sydney. I've spent the last eight years working as an independent music producer, and studied Music Technologies at the University of Tasmania. I'm keen to build on that by developing my visual and storytelling skills, since they go hand in hand with music, whether that's music videos, artist content, or just telling a story well. This program feels like a great opportunity to learn something new and connect with people across the industry.
Why did you choose to tell this story
I chose to tell this story to shed light on how hard it actually is to break into the creative industries. What drew me to it was my own experience of the music industry as a closed-off world, one that's difficult to find a way into without knowing where to start. Making this project gave me the chance to hear directly from artists and industry professionals living that same reality, and to finally get some real answers.
What do you hope audiences take away from your project
I hope audiences come away with a more honest picture of what it actually takes to break into a creative career, and feel like they've heard something real rather than the usual "just work hard and you'll make it" story.
