The Unsung Heroes of the Community: The Rotary Club of Sutherland

From Om Karki

The Unsung Heroes of the Community goes inside the Rotary Club of Sutherland to meet the volunteers who quietly give their time to help others, both locally and around the world. Through personal interviews, members share how they first became involved, what keeps them committed, and what everyday life as a Rotarian really looks like. The film also explores the challenges Rotary faces today, including attracting new members and staying relevant to younger generations. It celebrates the value of community service and asks why more people should consider joining.

My name is Om Karki, I’m a 3rd years student at the university of Sydney. Reading International relation and Philosophy.

Why did you choose to tell this story

I chose to tell this story because the volunteers of the Rotary Club of Sutherland do so much for our community, yet most people never see or hear about their work.

What do you hope audiences take away from your project

I hope audiences come away with a greater appreciation for the everyday people who quietly make their communities better. I want viewers to see that volunteering isn't just for a special few; anyone can make a difference, whether locally or internationally. Most of all, I hope the film inspires people to get involved, whether by joining Rotary, supporting a local cause, or simply finding their own way to give back to the people around them.
