F12. Best Editing (Nominee)
Cold All Year
From Adam Venckus
Alex goes on a winter camping trip with his girlfriend to rekindle their spark before the fire burns out, while grappling with the destructive rise of past emotional conflict.
My name is Adam Venckus. I'm a Canadian-Australian filmmaker who values the universality and honesty found in engaging stories. I'm a second-year student studying Film and Television at Swinburne University. Outside of school, I work as an LX assist in the commercial space and am excited to add to my portfolio as a Director of Photography. My film Cold All Year was shortlisted for Best Editing, which I'm incredibly grateful for. Editing this film was quite a challenge, given the footage we shot. I'm grateful to my co-director, Sydney Wong, for trusting me through the process and allowing for creative freedom in chopping this thing up a million times and putting it back together again.
What inspired you and your work?
Cold All Year was inspired by the struggles of pushing through unresolved feelings and how they impact our lives and relationships, whether we acknowledge them or not. It explores how these feelings blend, not always staying separate, but combining into a messy soup we can struggle to untangle. I co-wrote the film with Sydney Wong; we both moved to Toronto in the winter of 2024, it was really, really cold.
