Red String

From Leo Pan

Two lovers find themselves bound together by fate through a red string, exploring their relationship through high school to adulthood.

Hi my name is Leo Jiaming Pan I’m a Flickerfest Winning Director/DP/Producer/Editor based in Sydney. I aim to create stories deeply influenced by my culture and the Asian Diaspora as my work aims to convey deep emotional themes through stylistic storytelling and imagery.

What inspired you and your work?

My film was inspired by the East Asian Belief and Mythology of the Red String of Fate and how it deeply connects us to all people and the relationships we have with another regardless of platonic relations and romantic. Using these themes, I aimed to tell an Immigrant Love Story following two Chinese teenagers as we follow their journey through to university and further, showing how even when love might exist or to be predetermined; it can just as easily break or shift into another direction towards the destination of our journeys.
