The Red Packet

From Sattine Wilson

Sophie must face her family’s expectations when a red packet stirs old tensions, revealing the weight of tradition.

Hello, I'm Sattine Wilson, a student at Deakin University in Burwood, studying a Bachelor of Film, Television, and Animation. My short film, "The Red Packet," has been shortlisted for 'Best Editing' at The Australian Youth Film Festival. While my university journey has been enriching, my full-time job has limited my industry exposure. Nevertheless, I've had the chance to act in and contribute to training videos for my workplace. My goal is to build a career in the film industry, specialising in producing and screenwriting, where I can bring compelling stories to life.

What inspired you and your work?

"The Red Packet," was made as a student short film where we all had the opportunity to choose from selected student’s scripts to develop into a film. The writer, Stephanie, pitched this heartfelt story early on, and I was immediately drawn to its heartfelt message: love and family transcend language. The concept resonated deeply with me, inspiring me to honour Stephanie’s story and bring her vision to life. Living in our diverse multicultural society, many crew members connected with the film’s themes, sharing cultural backgrounds and experiences. This collective passion fuelled our commitment to bringing this meaningful story to life in a genuine and impactful way.
