Enmeshed
From Corban Bruce
‘ENMESHED' is a drama that follows James, a teenager in his final year of high school, who finds himself stuffed into the boot of a car instead of at school. Tatjana, his mother, fears that James is being assaulted by his teachers and plans to get him away from them by kidnapping him.
On their forced road trip, James pretends to believe his mother’s delusions. However, the longer he goes along with her plan, the more disconnected from reality she becomes.
G'day! My name is Corban Bruce and I am from Gold Coast, Queensland. I am currently studying at Bond University and my short film 'Enmeshed' was shortlisted! I'm a young filmmaker who strives to tell complex narratives that aim to challenge or expand our perspectives. I'm early in my career, having only worked on a handful of short films before finding myself in the director's chair for the first time with my shortlisted film 'Enmeshed'.
What inspired you and your work?
The inspiration for this story stemmed from my personal experience of being a young carer for my mother, who suffers from schizophrenia. More specifically it’s closely based on the first time I had to get my mother admitted to hospital. With this story I wish to illuminate the struggles young carers must face in order to keep their loved ones safe and to make audiences wonder what they would do in the same circumstance with their own family.
