C5. Best Cinematography (Nominee)
Ocker Couture
From William Genat
A Fashion Designer and his Photographer embark on a trek into the vast Australian Outback to shoot their latest high-brow clothing campaign.
My name is William Genat, and I am from Melbourne, Australia. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Film and TV and have a love for stories centred around offbeat and quirky characters. My film, Ocker Couture, which I co-directed, was shortlisted for Best Cinematography.
What inspired you and your work?
The idea for "Ocker Couture" came to us on a train after a night out, soon after graduating High School. We wanted to plan a road trip before we started University with the aim of shooting a film along the way. We had both travelled around Australia with our families when we were younger, so we felt a trip in that ilk would be most memorable - especially this time, as we would be doing it alone. And then, as it did to the Designer in the film, the idea of the Outback was born. Inspired by the likes of Mockumentary legend Christopher Guest and iconic Aussie Outback films such as 'Priscilla Queen of the Desert' and 'Wake in Fright', we aimed to create a comedic piece that poked fun at the frankly ridiculous and over-the-top fashion world and the lengths people go to get the "perfect shot".
