Once a Queen
From Ollie Ivin-Poole
After a tragic accident, two young lovers search for one another as they drift through a dreamlike space, reminiscing the joy and heartbreak of their time together as they attempt to find closure.
Hey, I'm Ollie, an upcoming Director and Editor. Currently finishing my final year of Swinburne. My work includes a number of Short Films and Music Videos.
What inspired you and your work?
Paired with Daniel Norgren's soulful folk song, 'Once a Queen' drifts between a liminal space and the memories of a love shared between two people. The film is less about plot than it is about a specific feeling. I wanted to capture what it feels like to reminisce someone that was once special to you. The joy, the pain, the fleeting butterflies that stay with you long after they're gone. The film is meant to feel like stepping inside a memory itself, disjointed and fragmented, creating a sense of nostalgia for a time and place that you may not have experienced.
I wanted to create a space where the audience actively engages, reflecting on their own relationships and experiences to interpret the story. The film holds just enough ambiguity to allow viewers to bring themselves into the narrative, making the experience personal and immersive.
Ultimately, to me this film is about making peace with the past and having closure on memories that won't go away. It's an exploration on the idea that whilst life can be fleeting, love is eternally.
