People Pleaser

From Angelica Eugenia Wijaya

Unable to say no, a young girl is pulled into an unfamiliar world that tests her limits and leads her to discover her real identity.

Hi, I'm Angelica Eugenia Wijaya, a recent Animation graduate from RMIT University Australia, where I graduated with High Distinction. I'm passionate about telling stories through animation and creating visuals that feel personal, relatable, and fun. I love exploring themes of human connection and everyday experiences, and I'm always looking for new ways to bring those stories to life through illustration and hand-drawn animation.

My film has been shortlisted at the International Student Film and Screenwriting Festival 2026, A Few First-Time Filmmaker Sessions 2026, and Duemila30 2026, and received the Best Hand-Drawn Animation award at the International Student Film and Screenwriting Festival 2026.

What inspired you and your work?

My inspiration comes from my own experiences. I’ve always been a bit of a people pleaser, and sometimes I struggle to speak up or say what I actually want. That feeling is something I wanted to explore in my work.

I made this film because it’s really close to me, but I also hope other people can relate to it. I guess I just wanted to gently say that it’s okay to say no, and you don’t always have to please everyone.

Visually, I’m really inspired by Western cartoons I grew up with, like The Loud House and Gravity Falls. I love cute, round character designs and expressive, exaggerated emotions, and I try to bring that kind of energy into my animation.
