Hi, my name's Kaitlyn Bacon and I am an emerging animator from Melbourne, Australia. I'm interested in all aspects of animation, particularly FX and character designs. In 2025, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Animation at Swinburne University, and finished my first animated film, 'Miscast’, which I wrote and directed.
What inspired you and your work?
Miscast started as a silly comic I created. Throughout my childhood, I would draw comedic cartoon strips that never made full sense but were apparently funny. Around this time, I became captivated by animated cartoons; my parents told me I would throw tantrums when they turned the tv off. These two interests of mine have interconnected now and Miscast was born. I enjoy bringing laughs and chaotic silly energy into life around me. Miscast is full of silly, dumb jokes, but with the intent of being creatively unique compared to other mainstream wizards. I wanted to combine all the different creative skills with my teams, such as stop motions, 3D animations and 2d animation. I don't think this film could have been achieved if I hadn't had the art experience I studied while living in the UK. It has made me become confident in my artistic directions and knowing I can make my ideas become real.
