Ian and Sam
From Casey Xuan Tong Teoh
Ian and Sam go on a wild adventure through the wilderness. Unfortunately things don't go as planned as the responsible Ian hurts himself. Will Sam be there for Ian?
Hi, my name is Casey and I am a 2024 RMIT graduate, studied in Animation and Interactive Media. Together with Erin Kim, the co-director of Ian and Sam, produced this short film focusing the ups and downs of friendship in a light hearted and funny way.
The two met during their first year of university and worked on several projects together. Ultimately, their hard working nature and creativity naturally lead them to work on their final film together.
What inspired you and your work?
The inspiration for Ian and Sam was the celebration of youth and the challenges with it. Ian and Sam showcases individuals growing up, learning how to adjust for one's closest friend in order to establish deep connections. Through Ian and Sam, we wanted to show how friendships can be just as powerful as any other forms of relationships. We were inspired by 2000s animated films such as One Piece, Looney Toons, The Amazing World of Gumball, etc. As well as the comedy aspects from a lot of Stephen Chow movies. These were also inspirations to have the colour of the short represent colour from film photography, creating that nostalgic feeling.
